Affordable Housing Planning Meeting

The City of Omaha Planning Department has scheduled an Affordable Housing Action Plan Focus Group meeting for AAN Executive Roundtable member input at 2 p.m. on Monday 6-13-22. It’s important that we have input from Apartment Owners, Developers, and Managers considered as part of the process so we would appreciate your participation. Some of the key points that we would like to highlight:

• Increased cost for new development results in higher rental rates for all product types including workforce and non-subsidized affordable communities.
• Encourage the Planning Department to set up a Task Force to help identify ways to reduce costs and time requirements associated with zoning and entitlements, building code requirements, permit and development fees, etc.
• Provide examples of challenges and difficulties encountered in recent developments that added to development cost and potential procedural modifications that could be implemented to streamline the process, improve transparency, avoid surprises, decrease delays, etc.
